近日，密歇根大學(xué)拉克哈姆Rackham研究生院宣布，從2022-2023申請(qǐng)季開始，該校博士專業(yè)申請(qǐng)中，申請(qǐng)人不再需要提交GRE成績。

 

目前，密歇根大學(xué)安娜堡Ann Arbor和迪爾伯恩Dearborn兩個(gè)校區(qū)，共有一百多個(gè)博士專業(yè)由Rackham研究生院管理，2023申請(qǐng)季將全部免去GRE要求。

 

密歇根大學(xué)對(duì)博士研究生錄取中GRE考試的免除議案從2021年9月開始啟動(dòng)，雖然也有部分教師員工對(duì)此持反對(duì)態(tài)度。但是該校Rackham研究生院院長Mike Solomon最后還是決定采取免GRE政策。

 

Mike Solomon表示：“過去十幾年中，我們部分專業(yè)的錄取已經(jīng)采取無GRE成績政策，都取得了不錯(cuò)的效果”。

在此之前，這一政策在全校所有博士專業(yè)（負(fù)責(zé)老師）中進(jìn)行了調(diào)查，最后顯示有超過90%的人支持免去博士申請(qǐng)中免GRE成績的入學(xué)政策。

 

談及此次對(duì)所有博士專業(yè)錄取采取免GRE成績政策，Mike Solomon說明了三點(diǎn)原因：

•GRE考試的費(fèi)用，讓一些優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生放棄選擇密歇根大學(xué)；

•使用GRE成績作為博士錄取的考慮因素，存在不同種族、性別、家庭經(jīng)濟(jì)背景學(xué)生之間的不公平性；

•GRE成績并不能證明其與博士生的研究成果、論文水平等博士教育結(jié)果之間的相關(guān)性。

 

免去GRE成績之后，學(xué)校希望有更多元的群體以及國際學(xué)生能夠申請(qǐng)密歇根大學(xué)。與此同時(shí)，Mike Solomon院長還認(rèn)為“在無GRE成績之后，學(xué)生的申請(qǐng)資料能以更加中立的方式被審閱。”

 

密歇根大學(xué)是一所深受中國留學(xué)生喜愛的綜合性研究型大學(xué)，很多專業(yè)在學(xué)術(shù)排名中常年位居前列，與常春藤院校不分上下。無需提交GRE成績后，預(yù)計(jì)申請(qǐng)密歇根大學(xué)博士專業(yè)的中國留學(xué)生人數(shù)會(huì)呈現(xiàn)較大增長。

 

近些年來，隨著美國社會(huì)對(duì)大學(xué)公平性的呼聲不斷增大，再加上這兩年疫情的影響，要求取消GRE、GMAT等考試成績作為入學(xué)申請(qǐng)條件的訴求不斷高漲。除了密歇根大學(xué)外，還有不少學(xué)校更新了對(duì)申請(qǐng)者GRE的提交要求。

圣路易斯華盛頓去年免除GRE提交申請(qǐng)的項(xiàng)目包括：生物醫(yī)學(xué)工程、計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)與工程、電氣與系統(tǒng)工程、能源環(huán)境與化學(xué)工程等。

今年Wustl的工程學(xué)院雖然依舊采用GRE可選擇提交政策，但是官網(wǎng)還明確表示了：推薦提交GRE成績。選擇提交成績的同學(xué)，GRE成績也將成為招生官考量的因素。

 

康奈爾大學(xué)

康奈爾商學(xué)院下的管理學(xué)碩士，2022Fall申請(qǐng)同樣不要求GRE成績，但是項(xiàng)目也明確提出，缺少標(biāo)化成績，招生辦會(huì)通過其他申請(qǐng)材料來評(píng)估你的學(xué)術(shù)能力。
